Origin of Punta del Burro

I too have always wondered where the name originated. Usually names like this in Mexico refer to something seen at that location eg: White Cow Slough (a slough frequented by a white cow). I thought perhaps a donkey frequented the point to have an afternoon vista. The sory of Applegates finding shells called burro (actually the name is pata de burro - burro's foot) makes sense. Looking at this shell- a clam called Anadara tuberculosa - one can see the shape of a donkey's foot, hence the name pata de burro. Here's a pic...so now you know another little known fact hardly worth knowing.

Surf Boards Stolen from Bahia #35

Hello Neighbors

FYI: Surfs Boards Stolen, and Reward Offered.

Some time between January and February, two long boards were stolen from our house at Bahia #35. This is the beach house, just South, below Roy G.

The two boards were taken from our rear bedroom. Someone had access, no windows or locks were damaged. No other items were taken.

Both were 9'9" long boards, one had red stripes, and the other blue stripes. They both would have labels, from surf shops in Encinitas or Carlsbad CA.

I am offering a $ 2,000.00 cash reward for information, of who took my surf boards, their true identity, and location.

In search of the origin of Punta del Burro

I enjoyed the fish picture and Paco's hypothesis. Now to further complicate the issue:

Trish Shelton showed me two large shells which she says are the male and female of the Burro shell. The male looks just like what we usually call a Conch, while the female is thicker, rounder and white. She says Ricardo Applegate and his kids gathered on their new property and he named it for the shell, the female, rounded like a burro, like a burrito...Luz was there, Aurea is now deceased, Craig's wife would have been too young, but perhaps she has heard the story, Chef Roger's wife may be able to add mo

Here I go attempting to use this ...

very complex and orverarching website that you, Joe (and Willy) have assembled to try and bring us disparate folks who have in common a love for PDB together. I commend you. Especially for adding the legal stuff we have been lacking as we have attempted to keep this place moving along. We always did the minues, and even translated them into Spanish (thanks to Lee's office) but they never got beyond that point. Somehow keeping the electicity wires suspended after a storm or the road passable took the energy. We have now grown past that time, though the environment will continue to impact us heavily.

To Joe and Willy

First I want to say a huge hurrah for the creation of this website. I appreciate its technical sophistication and know that we will come to use it more and more as it becomes more familiar.
Second I want to thank Willy Smith for his objective summary of what he sees as our situation. Thank you, Willy, for being willing to venture your opinion! And how gratifying to learn that we are not in as dire a situation as we feared. Yes, it's broke, but we can fix it! What we have is a community of people with a will to cooperate and that is gold! We don't need the super militancy of the security system recently employed by Aldrete's El Farallon next to us.

HOA Legal Status (Sample Blog)

Yesterday Joe Refsnes invited me to go with him to the office of Lic. Marco Ramirez to listen to different options for the continuance of the HOA. While this isn't really any of my business, I am still involved at the periphery by virtue of having put up this website. So I'm going to take the liberty of writing a casual blog about the meeting. As I mentioned to several of the people I met here at PDB, this website can just be a place where people hang photos, but it could also serve as a platform and tool which facilitates community communication and discussion. I hope that by writing this, others will see that it is possible to participate in such a community fairly easily.

Current Thoughts on PDB HOA

The PDB electrical billing process of reading the meters was an easy task. Both Leo and Pablo made the rounds together for water and electricity on February 1st and March 2nd. Getting the meters read on a timely basis provides for consistent usage and payments. The actual bills from CFE (four in total) are divided into sub meters for individual homes. The total amount used is then divided by the dollar amount to arrive at a factor that is used to figure out the individual homes' usage.

So if the factor is too great (which has happened even though in theory it's not supposed to), the amount collected is not enough to cover the electric payment. Hence the HOA dues cover these extraordinary expenses, which are paid from the general fund.
