Origin of Punta del Burro
I too have always wondered where the name originated. Usually names like this in Mexico refer to something seen at that location eg: White Cow Slough (a slough frequented by a white cow). I thought perhaps a donkey frequented the point to have an afternoon vista. The sory of Applegates finding shells called burro (actually the name is pata de burro - burro's foot) makes sense. Looking at this shell- a clam called Anadara tuberculosa - one can see the shape of a donkey's foot, hence the name pata de burro. Here's a pic...so now you know another little known fact hardly worth knowing.
