Colima Volcano

The state of Colima, located south of Jalisco, is home to the "Most Dangerous" volcano in Mexico. This is just close enough for a day trip, but far enough away that you never have to listen for strains of "I Lava You Truly" and "Oh, Pumice Me!" if you live in Punta del Burro. Bad volcano jokes aside, here is a map which will give you a vague idea of where it is:

Mike Davis: Boomer Retirees Invading Mexico
Submitted by Administrator on Tue, 2006-10-17 10:05. Community & Area NewsAlthough the tone of this article is not exactly what I'd call upbeat, it's interesting that people are really beginning to notice that the Mexico-US migration is not one-way. So I'm posting it as a "general interest" item for PdB'ers as this trend affects property values. This article appeared in The San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday, October 15, 2006. Damiana, Guaycura
Submitted by Willy Smith on Mon, 2006-10-16 09:00. Area Activities & FeaturesOne of the most enchanting things for me about visiting or living in another country is discovering local specialties which, even though they may be very popular there, have been totally unknown to me. Last week, while shopping at a local Mexican store in the Phoenix Arizona area, I happened to notice a rather large display of damiana tea in various forms. You'd probably not find this at Safeway or Kroger (Fry's), but in any Mexican store it's a given. So I thought I'd share a little bit about this herb.

Langostas, Anyone?
Submitted by Administrator on Thu, 2006-09-28 07:29. Community & Area News(Langosta is the Spanish word for Locust.)

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Clouds of locusts have descended around the Mexican beach resort of Cancun, destroying corn crops and worrying officials in a region still recovering from the devastating fury of last year's Hurricane Wilma. Traveling in dark fogs, locusts are grasshoppers that have entered a swarming phase, capable of covering large distances and rapidly stripping fields of vegetation.
"Imagine, they fly in the form of a flock. Imagine the width of a street," government official Martin Rodriguez said on Tuesday, describing the fields around Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula.

Tropical Storm headed up the Coast (Hurricane Lane?)
Submitted by Joe Refsnes on Thu, 2006-09-14 21:33.The weather is getting a little crazy again with Lane moving up the coast north of Manzanilla towards Cabo. It's packing rain. Lots of it... possible 40-50 mph winds. Should be in our vacinity late friday or early saturday. Batten the hatches and be aware of the tides. The waves, nah, they can't do any harm. And if you believe that I've got a palapa I'll sell ya!!
